Description
The building is an early 19th century maltings kiln, which was altered and raised in height in the mid 19th century. It features red brick walls that are rendered on the ground floor. The kiln has a tall, steeply pitched, hipped grey slate roof with a flat top and timber ventilators at both ends. It has a rectangular plan and consists of three storeys, with window openings on the ground and top floors only. There is one range of windows facing North Street and two ranges on the east face. The first floor and North Street have flat gauged heads, while the ground floor west face has segmental heads, including a segmental head above the doorway. The ventilator towers have a square plan, with horizontal boarding at the bases and grey slate pyramidal roofs. Additionally, there are two rows of circular tie plates between the ground and upper floors.
