Description

1-3 Malt Kiln is a former malt kiln, possibly dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of roughly squared sandstone and features a slate roof. The building is now one storey, having originally been two. The south-east end has been converted to form part of an adjoining house, which includes openings with plain reveals. The north-east wall features a wide entrance with plain reveals, alongside a one-light roughly chamfered window and a tall window with plain reveals above where the former first floor was located. To the right, there are two chamfered window surrounds of 18th-century style, although the central mullions are missing on each floor. The north-west gable wall has a modern window with plain reveals. The south-west wall, which is visible from the road, has modern windows with plain reveals at the left-hand end, a two-light chamfered mullioned window of 18th-century type in the center on each floor, and a chamfered surround with the mullion removed on the first floor at the right-hand end. At the far right, there are windows belonging to the modern house, which also have plain reveals. Inside, there are five softwood trusses. Buildings adjoining at right angles to the south-east end of the former kiln have been converted into a house and heavily altered.
