Description
The building is a former grain and timber kiln, dating from an unspecified period. It is a low, single-storey structure made of rubble with a slate roof and ventilating ridge tiles. The southwest gable end is slightly above road level and features decorative bargeboards with openwork acorns representing the family arms. The building includes tumbled infill red brick in its timber framing.
There is a central door that provides access to the loft floor, marked with a W monogram on a lower quoin. On the right side, there is another door with cambered brick voussoirs, along with a square ventilator on the downhill gable.
Inside, the door leads to a working area in front of the kiln mouth, which contains a grate leading to a firebox set in a brick pedestal. The outer sides of the kiln curve up on groin ribs to iron beams, which support a table at the upper level where perforated metal sheeting is laid for the drying floor. The roof structure is simple.
