Description

Pear Tree Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage that has been refenestrated in the 20th century. It is a two-bay cottage, likely originally designed with a lobby entrance. The structure is oak framed and covered in roughcast over weatherboarding, topped with a tiled roof and a 20th-century brick chimneystack. The cottage has one storey and attics, featuring two windows, a 20th-century gabled dormer, two casement windows, and a plank door. The side elevation also has two casement windows, while the rear has a catslide roof. A 20th-century link block and rear wing are not of special interest.

Inside, the cottage displays an exposed rear wall with upright posts that have a typical cut profile, diagonal braces, and carpenter's marks. One room contains an axial beam with a one-inch chamfer, a 18th-century three-plank door with hinges, and a probable 17th-century three-plank door with an L hinge leading to the winder staircase. The first floor features exposed framing with some carved wind braces and old floorboards, which may include reused elements from the cottage's history.
