Description

Red House and White House are two dwellings located on the north side of The Street in Kirby-le-Soken. The central range has origins from the 16th century, with a 17th-century extension and alterations, and a 19th-century brick facing on the forward right range. The buildings are mainly timber framed, with brick facing on the Red House (to the right) and plaster on the White House (to the left). The two left ranges have red plain tiled roofs that are hipped to the right, while the right range has a red pantiled roof. Each range features a red brick chimney stack, with a central stack having a square attached shaft. The eaves cornices are dentilled. The buildings are two storeys high, with a first floor that has a 2:2:1 window arrangement, consisting of various two-light casements and small paned vertically sliding sashes.

On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a French window with a traceried porch, a four-panel two-light door, a hipped red tiled three-light bay, small paned vertically sliding sash windows, a gauged brick arch, a two-panelled door with a small paned top light and a moulded surround, and similar right windows with a herringbone arch above. The left range is painted white. The interiors feature inglenook fireplaces, stop-chamfered bridging joists, side girts, top plates, and wall studs. There are also vertically boarded doors with ironmongery.
