Description
Street House is a house that was once The Royal Oak Public House. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. The building features a timber frame with plaster and a red plain tiled roof, along with red brick chimney stacks on both the left and right sides. It has two storeys and attics, with three flat-headed dormers that contain two-light casements. There are three windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor, all of which are vertically sliding sashes with glazing bars. The central entrance has a six-panelled door with reveal panels, a fluted surround, a frieze, and a flat canopy supported by brackets.
Inside, the main frame remains intact, showcasing stop-chamfered bridging joists and top plates. The roof has side purlins and a halved and bladed top plate scarf, while the staircase features turned balusters. The attic doors are vertically boarded, and there are panelled doors with moulded surrounds in other areas. An inglenook fireplace is present, and the right front room features 17th or 18th-century panelling with a dentilled cornice. Above the fireplace, there is a painted panel that is said to depict Old Walton Church before it eroded into the sea, along with a corner alcove cupboard that has fluted pilasters and curved shelves.
