Description

Nos. 26 and 28 Church Road are two dwellings of different builds, with No. 26 dating from the mid-16th century and part of No. 28 from the 17th century. The left range, which was formerly No. 30, is now part of No. 28. No. 26 features a 19th-century lean-to entrance on the right. The buildings are timber framed and plastered, topped with red plain tiled roofs, with a hipped lower level on the left. Each range has a red brick chimney stack on the end right, with the right stack being plastered and having two diagonal shafts.

The left range is two stories tall, while the right range has two stories and attics, including an attic window on the left return gable. The date 1627 is inscribed on the left side of the right range. There is a painted projection below the eaves on the right. Original pargetting and panelling were removed before 1955, and a date panel that was found read 167(8). The first floor features two sets of three windows, while the ground floor has three sets of four windows, all of which are two or three-light casements. Some of these are 19th-century windows with central transoms, while others are 20th-century leaded lights.

No. 28 has a 20th-century gabled porch and door, while No. 26 has a 19th-century vertically boarded door, with a pentice board extending over the window to the left. Inside, there is a heavy frame with stop-chamfered bridging joists and a framed side purlin roof.
