Description
The Cottage and Mizzens Cottage are two attached cottages located on the north side of The Street in Steeple. They date from the 18th century or earlier and have undergone later alterations and additions. The cottages are timber framed, with sections that are plastered and others that are weatherboarded. They feature red plain tiled roofs, with the left cottage having a gambrel roof and a segmental headed dormer. A red brick chimney stack is present. The buildings are one storey with attics, and the left cottage has an outshot at the rear, while the right cottage is two storeys high. The window arrangement consists of two sets of two windows, with fixed windows on the left and vertically sliding sash windows on the right. The ground floor windows on the right have small canopies supported by brackets. The left cottage has a vertically boarded door, and there is a moulded fascia with a flat canopy on brackets. The right range has two central doors, each with flat canopies on moulded brackets. The cottages are included for their group value.
