Description
Two cottages, located at Church Ponds in Castle Hedingham. They likely date to the 16th century or earlier, with subsequent alterations. One cottage (number 22) has a timber frame and a pebble-dashed exterior, while the other (number 20) has a plastered exterior. Both have red plain tiled roofs, with a gabled dormer window on number 22. A red brick chimney stack is located on the left-hand side. The cottages are arranged as one storey and attics (number 22) and a two-storey gabled and jettied crosswing (number 20) to the right. They feature a two-window arrangement, with small paned horizontal sliding sash windows. The ground floor window on the left is a vertically sliding sash. There is a panelled door with a moulded surround and a pentice board above on the left, and a vertically boarded door to the right. A step approach leads up to each door. The cottages are of group value, contributing to the character of the surrounding area.
