Description

Clematis Dormer Cottage is a range of two attached cottages from the 18th century, with a 19th-century shop now incorporated with Dormer Cottage. The building is timber framed, partly roughcast, partly plastered with imitation framing, and includes some painted brick. It has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The range faces west and consists of two cottages, each featuring a central stack. The 19th-century shop extends forward from the left end and has a long catslide roof over a rear extension. There is also a smaller rear lean-to extension to the main range. The main range is one storey with attics, while the shop extension has two storeys and an attic.

The building has five 20th-century casement windows, with five more on the first floor, four of which are located in gabled dormers. The entrance to Dormer Cottage features a flush four-panel door, while Clematis has a plain boarded door. The structure has a gambrel roof and displays face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates, primary straight bracing, and chamfered transverse beams with run-out stops. Inside, there are original stairs located at the rear of the stacks, branching to two upper rooms, along with some original internal doors that have HL hinges.
