Description

The Lion Public House is an 18th-century public house located on the south side of The Street, Latchingdon. It is timber framed and has plaster rendering, with some sections clad in painted brick. The roof is covered in handmade red clay tiles. The building has a double-range plan facing north, with an internal chimney stack in each range, an external stack at the left end, and a 20th-century external stack to the rear. A 20th-century single-storey extension is located to the left, behind the stack, and a further flat-roofed single-storey extension exists to the rear. The ground floor has two late 19th-century tripartite sash windows, each with 4-16-4 lights, and one splayed bay of late 19th-century sashes with 8-16-8 lights. The first floor has three similar tripartite sash windows. A flush six-panel door, with the top panels glazed, is set within a simple doorcase featuring a dentilled open pediment. The roof is fully hipped, with a valley opening only at the right end. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the streetscape.
