Description

Tyle Hall is a house dating from around 1500, which has been significantly altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building has a half-H plan facing south, featuring one internal stack in the central range, one internal stack in the right crosswing, and another stack at the rear of the right crosswing. There is a large Victorian extension to the left. The house is two storeys high with attics. On each floor, there are two tripartite sashes with 2-4-2 lights and two sashes with 4 lights, all dating from the late 19th century and arranged symmetrically. The central entrance features a six-panel flush door, with glazed top panels, set within a 19th-century portico. Originally, both crosswings jutted out at the front and had gabled roofs, but these have since been underbuilt and altered to hipped roofs. The interior has been extensively remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries, with most beams boxed in and all surfaces plastered. It includes early 19th-century marble fireplaces and 19th-century plaster covings. The house is situated on a moated site.
