Description
This is a barn located to the west of Elms Farmhouse, dating from the mid-17th century. It features five bays with a robust and well-crafted timber frame, topped with half hipped roofs made of corrugated iron. The north side has aisles, while the south side includes a central jettied gabled midstrey that contains pigeon holes and a cote, along with lean-to structures. The barn showcases elegantly jowled and chamfered posts, halved and bladed scarf joints, arched bracing, and broad triple pegged straight raking struts that support the wind braced side purlins. Inside, there are numerous dated initials, and the front post of the midstrey is marked with the date '1694', indicating this later addition. Additionally, there is an early 19th-century cart shed with a gabled pantile roof attached to the eastern end of the barn.
