Description
This is a barn located immediately southeast of Elm Tree Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, topped with a clay plain tile roof that has half-nipped ends. The barn has a three-bay layout with a central threshing bay, while the southwest bay has been partitioned for domestic use.
On the southwest front, there are large 20th-century double doors at the center. The southwest end includes a 20th-century French window and several 20th-century casement windows, with a small casement at the rear. Inside, the timber frame remains largely intact, showcasing jowled posts, curved braces to tie-beams, queen-struts to the collars, clasped purlins, and curved wind-braces. It also features complete common-rafter couples, some wall studding, and long slightly curved tension-braces. The barn is included for its group value.
