Description

This barn, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, sits immediately north northwest of Durley Hall Farmhouse. It is a timber-framed structure with brick aisle walls and an east gable end, and a weatherboarded west gable end. The roof is covered with clay tiles, both plain and scalloped, and has half-hipped and gabled ends.

The barn's original plan included five bays, with aisles on both the north and south sides, and a threshing floor in the second bay from the west end. The southern aisle to the west of the threshing bay has been removed, and the southern aisle to the east of the threshing bay was converted into a piggery in the late 19th century.

The north side of the roof extends over a low brick aisle wall. A weatherboarded midstrey (a small projecting structure) is located to the right of centre, featuring an overhanging half-hipped gable on braces and plank double doors. On the south side, a cart entrance is situated to the left of centre, with plank double doors clad in corrugated steel sheets. A brick wall is adjacent to the left, and a catslide roof covers the brick piggery to the right, featuring round arch openings and brick-walled runs in front. The east gable end wall is constructed of earlier random bond brickwork.

Inside, the barn has jowled arcade-posts with straight braces to the arcade-plates and tie-beams. The queen-post trusses feature clasped purlins, and some straight wind-braces. Common-rafter couples are present without a ridge-piece.
