Description
The Old Rectory is a house dating from the 17th or 18th century, and possibly earlier. It is a two-storey timber-framed and plastered building. The front section, which faces the lane, is from the late 18th century, while the long rear section is at right angles and features a gabled crosswing at the eastern end. There is a modern extension with a flat roof, two slate-roofed lean-tos attached to the rear range, and an 'L' shaped single-storey service block with a slate roof.
The front block has a gabled peg tile roof and two red brick stacks at the gable ends. It consists of five bays with double-hung sash windows that have glazing bars and six-over-six small panes. There is an off-centre open porch with a simple pediment, featuring the original six raised and fielded panel door, although the top four panels have been replaced with glass. The rear blocks also have gabled peg tile roofs, two ridge line brick stacks, and a mix of old leaded light casements, sash windows, and 19th-century casements. Inside, the rear block showcases exposed timber framing and a well-preserved late 18th-century staircase.
