Description

Number 1, Clarks Cottages is a house dating from the 17th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with weatherboarded end walls and a shingled roof. The building has two storeys, and the front roof was raised in the 20th century. It features a two-window range with 20th-century casements, a 20th-century door, and a lean-to porch. At the rear, there is a lean-to extension and a red brick chimney stack.

Inside, the house has good quality exposed timber framing, with through bracing and halved and bladed scarfs. The bridging joists are stop-chamfered. There are some 17th-century doors with original ironmongery, original mantel beams, and an inglenook fireplace, which is now partly blocked and has a 20th-century fireplace and a late 18th-century cupboard.
