Description

Nos. 55 and 57 on High Street are a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. The building is timber framed and plastered, featuring yellow stock brick. It has a red plain tile roof and stands two storeys high, with a lean-to extension at the south end. The façade includes a five-window range with vertical sliding sashes that have glazing bars, as well as two casements, one of which retains its original ovolo mullions. The ground floor has segmental brick arches, and there are four plain boarded doors. A small shop-type window is combined with the south door in the lean-to extension. The building is topped with an original red brick chimney stack, which has attached diagonal shafts on a moulded base.
