Description
Buckhurst Hill War Memorial is situated outside St Stephen’s Church in Buckhurst Hill. It features a hooded limestone tablet that frames a lancet-shaped bronze plaque. At the top of the tablet hood, there is a central projecting Latin cross. On either side of the tablet, there are small projecting limestone planters. The entire structure rests on a square base with three steps.
The bronze plaque lists the names of the fallen and includes the main dedicatory inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES FOR GOD AND THE RIGHT. GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS."
