TQ 49 NW LOUGHTON GOLDINGS HILL, 1/1 Milestone on W side opposite Gregson's Ride at TQ 429 982 - II II

Milestone, late C18. Limestone. Flat surface facing NE inscribed 'London 13', flat surface facing SE inscribed 'Epping 3', inclined facet above inscribed 'Loughton Parish'. Back and top rounded. Situated in light woodland approx. 2.5 metres from W kerb of Goldings Hill, marked on 1/10,000 Ordnance Map. This road, formerly called Golden's Hill, was opened by the Epping and Ongar Highway Trust in 1775. (B. Winstone: Epping and Ongar Highway Trust, London 1891, pp.l13-119).
