Description

This is a late 19th-century house, known as Deerhurst, associated with the sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein. The house is constructed of painted brick with a slate roof. It is aligned approximately north-south, with its main aspect facing east, and features a chimney stack on the eastern pitch of the roof. The house is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two double-hung sash windows with four lights each, set within flat brick arches, alongside a flat-roofed bay window, which serves as a porch, and a splayed bay window. The first floor mirrors the ground floor with two sash windows of a similar design, and a splayed bay window. A string course runs at the level of the sills of the first-floor windows. The roof is hipped. A round plaque is affixed to the building, inscribed with “Sir Jacob Epstein, sculptor, born 1880 died 1959, lived in this house from 1933 to 1950”.
