Description

Little Laver Grange is a house dating from the late 15th century and earlier, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with red plain tile roofs. The building has two storeys and features a three-window range with 20th-century casements and 19th-century vertical sliding sashes, which include glazing bars and sidelights. At the west end, there is an early 19th-century gabled wing that has a single-storey canted bay with vertical sliding sashes. To the left, there is a gabled porch. A staircase tower from the 16th century and rear wings from the 17th and 18th centuries are also present. The right front of the house was formerly jettied but is now underbuilt, and there are red brick chimney stacks, with the central stack inscribed with the year 1547.

Inside, there are two brick arched fireplaces and a large timber-mantelled inglenook, all from the 16th century. The interior features moulded bridging joists, jowled storey posts, original ovolo mullioned windows, and a 16th-century tiled floor. The early 19th-century range includes an original staircase with a wreathed handrail, along with early 19th-century details throughout, such as doors, architraves, and skirtings. There is also a bay window from the 18th century and one 18th-century fire surround. An original 16th-century door is located on the first floor. The roof features a 15th-century arch braced to the collar and later arch braced to side purlin roofs. The house is situated on a moated site.
