Description
Lone Pine Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that is roughcast rendered and has a thatched roof. The building has four bays oriented approximately north-south, with the main aspect facing west. There are axial chimney stacks located at both the north end and at the south end of the third bay from the north.
At the rear of the south bay, there is a single-storey extension, while the rear of the north bay has a one-storey extension with attics. The cottage has a plain boarded door and three 20th-century casement windows, along with four gabled dormers that also contain 20th-century casement windows. Inside, some of the framing is exposed, featuring posts that are not jowled, straight tiebeams, and primary straight bracing. The axial beams in the north bay and two south bays are chamfered with lamb's tongue stops, while the joists are unchamfered and have a vertical section. In the second bay from the north, the joists are arranged axially, suggesting some reconstruction has taken place. The roof has clasped purlins. Notably, the south chimney stack is original and of an unusual design, supported at the front corners by heavy posts and open at the sides.
