Description
The Lilacs is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with extensions made in the 18th and 19th centuries, and alterations in the 20th century. It has a timber frame that is roughcast rendered and is roofed with asbestos tiles. The building consists of four bays arranged approximately northwest to southeast, featuring an axial chimney stack located in the second bay from the northwest. There is a lean-to extension at the rear, which dates from the 18th or 19th century. The cottage is a single storey with attics and has a 20th-century door at the front of a gabled porch. It includes four 20th-century casement windows, plus one additional window in a gabled dormer. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. Inside, some of the framing is exposed, showcasing heavy studding and arched braces connecting the posts to the wallplates, which are not trenched. In the northwest bay, the axial beam is boxed in, while in the bay southeast of the chimney stack, the longitudinal joists are of horizontal section and unchamfered.
