Description
Thatchover Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. The house is timber framed with brick infill and some brick rebuilding and additions. The roof is thatched with a scalloped ridge, and there are brick chimney stacks incorporated into the structure. Originally, the house consisted of two framed bays aligned north-south and facing west, with extensions added to the north and east in the late 19th or early 20th century. The original house was formerly one storey and attic, with three square panels visible to the eaves and straight braces. It now features two ground floor casement windows with segmental heads, a small casement to the ground floor right with a straight head, two eyebrow dormers, and mostly early 20th-century windows with leaded lights. A roughly central glazed door is set within a heavy wooden surround; a door to the right has been blocked. A slightly set-back 19th-century extension, one storey and one bay, is located to the left. Inside, the cottage has chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a large open fireplace with a heavy bresummer, and a collar and tie beam roof truss.
