Description
Willow Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with later alterations. It features a timber frame with brick infill and some brick rebuilding, topped by a plain tile roof and a brick ridge stack. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a baffle-entry hall range aligned east-west facing south, and a crosswing to the west aligned north-south. It is one storey and has an attic, with the framing altered but likely originally consisting of square panels. The windows are 1:1 proportions with 20th-century casements. The gabled crosswing on the left has been extended and includes two ground floor windows, along with a 16th-century queen strut roof truss. A 20th-century porch with a glazed door is situated in the angle between the hall and the crosswing. The right-hand (east) gable of the hall range incorporates a cruck truss with a single pair of purlins and a ridge piece. This house has been extensively remodeled but is noted for its interesting plan-form and cruck construction. The interior has not been inspected.
