Description
No. 25 Dark Lane is a house dating from the late 16th century, with later alterations and additions. It is timber framed with brick infill, along with brick additions and repairs. The original thatched roof has been replaced with plain tiles, and there are brick stacks, one central and one external at the end. The house consists of two framed bays aligned north-south and facing east, with single-bay extensions at each end. It has one storey and an attic, with some of the framing partially obscured, revealing about three square panels at the eaves with straight braces. There are three windows featuring 20th-century casements with latticed panes, along with three gabled dormers. The door is located to the left of center and is sheltered by a lean-to porch. Inside, the framing of the north wall is exposed, showing two large square panels at the tie beam level. The roof truss features a collar and tie beam with raking struts extending from the central tie beam, and closely spaced studs above the tie beam of the north truss. The ceiling beams are chamfered and stopped.
