1 And 2, The Square, Coast Road

Nos. 1 and 2 The Square, located on Coast Road in West Mersea, are a range of 18th-century cottage tenements. The cottages are one storey high with attics and are framed in timber, covered with painted weatherboards. They feature a gambrel roof with peg tiles and have two chimneys at the ends. On the left side, there are four gabled dormers with casement windows, while the right side has small-pane sash windows. The ground floor includes two plain doors topped with vernacular pediments on scrolls, two pairs of small-pane sashes on the right, a sliding sash window on the left, and one pair of modern sash windows.
