Description
Nos. 5 and 6 The Square is a pair of cottages that date from the 16th and 18th centuries. They are timber framed and clad in red brick, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has a lobby entry plan and consists of two storeys above a basement. It features a brick modillion eaves cornice and a hipped roof with a gablet on the right side, along with a central-right chimney stack.
The first floor has three 20th-century wood casement windows, while the ground floor has two irregularly placed 19th-century sash windows and two 20th-century plank and stud doors situated between the three ground floor windows. The right side elevation, which faces Church Hill, is timber framed with painted brick nogging and stands on a plastered plinth. The first floor has a jetty supported by a moulded dragon post, and the fenestration is irregular.
