Description

This is an early 18th-century house located on the West Mersea Coast Road. The house is notable for its striking blue-glazed brick facade, laid in a header bond. A moulded band of red brick sunken panels is present, with five panels in the parapet above moulded and dentilled eaves. The gables are diapered with red and blue bricks, and have inset chimneys. The door eaves feature a plastered cove. The central front door is a six-panel leaf with two crown-glass lights, sheltered by a fluted Tuscan pilaster surround with a flat, leaded entablature that projects beyond the pilasters. Two small-paned sash windows flank the door, each set within a segmental brick arch visible within an exposed brick surround. A further five matching sash windows are located on the first storey. The roof is ridged and covered in peg tiles. A modern, flat-roofed dormer spans the full width of the front facade. The gatepiers are topped with ball finials, and a wrought iron gate is present. A wing extends to the rear, creating an L-shaped plan.
