Description

New Bridge, also known as Iron Bridge, is a 19th-century bridge featuring six iron elliptical arch ribs, each cast in four pieces and bolted together. The imposts are made of a mix of stock and gault bricks. The bridge now stands well back from the infilled river banks. Its parapets overhang the arch ribs and have cast-iron arcaded soffit edges. Additionally, the bridge is supported by twelve iron stanchions that feature square and diagonal cast iron open-work panels for the railings.
