Description

A pair of attached cottages located on Burrows Road, Earls Colne, built in 1835. The cottages are constructed of red brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof. They have a square plan and share central stacks, facing south. Each cottage has two storeys. Originally, each had a two-window arrangement with sashes containing 20 lights, set within segmental arches; two first-floor sashes have since been inserted. The entrances are located in the end walls, each framed by a semi-circular brick arch. The gables are timber-framed and plastered. Along with numbers 9 and 11, these cottages represent the best surviving group of 19th-century estate cottages within the Braintree District.
