Description
Nos. 1 and 2, Mill End are a pair of handed cottages built in the late 18th century. They are timber framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. The cottages have four bays facing southwest and feature a central stack. At the rear, there are three small lean-to extensions. The buildings are one storey high with attics and include three 18th-century two-light windows, each with one wrought iron casement and rectangular leaded panes, along with two additional windows in slated swept dormers. There are also two 20th-century slated gabled porches with doors at the front. An oval plaque with the monogram RB, representing Ruggles-Brise, is located in the center of the front elevation. The roof is half-hipped at both ends, and there is one similar window in each return elevation at first floor level. The main structural members of the frame are made from good quality imported pine, and some of the wrought iron casements still have their original spring latches.
