Description
A house, dating from the 17th century, was later altered in the 19th and 20th centuries and has been converted into two cottages at 1 and 3 Duck End. The building is timber-framed with plaster infill and a thatched roof. The original house had four bays facing southeast, featuring a central stack and an external stack at the right end. A 19th-century rear extension was added to the left end, with a stack, and later 20th-century extensions were incorporated. The structure has one storey with attic space. Four modern casement windows are visible on the front, with upper windows located in slated, swept dormers. The left bay and a rear extension form the first cottage (number 1), while the remaining bays originally comprised cottages 2, 3, and 4, which have now been combined to form the second cottage (number 3). The central stack houses two large wood-burning hearths, with the right-hand hearth having been rebuilt. The interior features longitudinal joists of a horizontal section in the bay to the left of the central stack, and the rafters are largely original. The building is listed for Group Value, recognized for its contribution to the local architectural context.
