Description

This is a range of barns and outbuildings dating from the 18th to 19th century, located approximately 30 metres west of Oak Farmhouse along Bakers Lane in Black Notley. The structures are primarily timber framed and weatherboarded, with some sections finished in plaster, and feature red plain tiled roofs.

The range includes a two-storey stable with a loft above, which faces the road and has a brick plinth and plastered surface. It contains three vertically boarded doors and two loft doors leading to the farmyard. There is also a lower-level weatherboarded stable range that has four window openings and a stable door opening into the farmyard. A full-height barn with double doors faces the road, and attached to this is a three-bay cartlodge with a hipped end roof. The buildings generally have side purlin roofs and some include hanging knees.
