Description
The Church of St Mary the Virgin in Gestingthorpe features head and foot stones located approximately 10 metres east of the east window. These stones date from around 1769 and are part of a pair. The headstone has a wave-curved top and includes a central moulded oval frame depicting a mourning woman dressed in widow's weeds, leaning on a Roman altar topped with a two-handled urn, set against a willow tree background. The frame is adorned with bay leaf ornamentation. The plain footstone is inscribed with "H.H. 1769."
