Description

The Bell Inn is a public house with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, featuring later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with a rough rendered first floor and a ground floor faced in red brick from the 19th or 20th century. The roof is red plain tiled and hipped to the right, with red brick chimney stacks on the left and rear right. A central moulded brick band runs along the building. The structure has two storeys and a three-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes, with shutters on the ground floor. The entrance features a central two-panelled door with four lights, set in a rusticated surround that includes a moulded frieze and keystone, topped with a moulded pediment.

To the left of the inn is the return wall of Alderford Grange, of which The Bell Inn is the southern part. This section continues the red tiled roof, hipped to the left, and includes a front external painted gault chimney stack, a flat-headed dormer, a parapet, and one window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes. Internally, the original jettied front is visible along with brackets, stop-chamfered bridging joists, and a moulded round-headed doorway.
