Description
This is a house located at 49 Swan Street, dating from the early 16th century with later alterations. It features an exposed timber frame with plaster infill and a red plain tiled roof. The house has an off-centre left red brick chimney stack with a moulded base and three octagonal shafts. It is two storeys high with attics and has a long wall jetty supported by a moulded bressumer and six brackets.
There are three windows on the upper floor, which are small paned vertically sliding sashes, along with a smaller similar window on the ground floor to the right. To the left, there is a 20th-century single-storey entrance porch with a red pantiled roof and a boarded door, accessed by steps. The interior consists of six bays with a moulded and stop-chamfered ceiling and bridging joists. The central and left rooms have similar wall plates.
There is an inglenook back-to-back fireplace with a stop-chamfered straight beam above it, and the house features jowled storey posts. The roof has a simple two-armed crown post design with arched braces to the tie beams. A diamond mullion window is present, and various shutter grooves and mullion stops can still be seen. Additionally, there are three rows of augered holes on the left attic wall.
