Description

Websters Almshouses are a group of six almshouses built around 1884 in the style of the 17th century. They are arranged in three ranges and feature a timber frame with parget plaster and some batten decoration. The roofs are covered with red plain tiles. Each of the left, central, and right ranges has a red brick chimney stack with square bases and four octagonal shafts. The buildings are one storey high with attics in the centre and right ranges, while the left range has a jettied gambrel crosswing and is two storeys tall. The centre range is set back from the others.

The windows are arranged in a 1:3:2 pattern, featuring three or four light leaded casements. The ground floor of the centre range has hipped red tiled six-light oriel windows supported by carved brackets. Gabled dormers are present on both the centre and right ranges. There are red tiled porches on the inner returns of the right and left ranges, each with two vertically boarded doors that have ornate hinges. The two central doors, which are covered by a pentice board, are accessed by steps with flat carved wooden balusters. Above these doors is a small decorative gable with a floral pargetted apex and an inscribed panel that reads, "To The Glory of God and the dear memory of Maria Webster these almshouses were dedicated and declare free forever. June 2nd 1884."
