Description
This is an 18th-century cottage located approximately 40 metres west-north-west of Ringers in Shalford. The cottage is timber framed, plastered, and features a weatherboarded dado with a thatched roof. It has two bays facing south, with an original stack on the left return wall and a 20th-century external stack on the right return wall. There is a lean-to porch at the rear, which is roofed with corrugated asbestos. The building is one storey with attics and has a two-window range of 20th-century casements, with the upper windows set in swept dormers. The door is a plain boarded design from the 20th century. The roof is gambrel and half-hipped at the right end only. Inside, there are chamfered axial beams, exposed joists, primary straight bracing, and a wood-burning hearth. The cottage is similar in design to Garlands Cottage on Brent Hall Road in Finchingfield, but it does not have any modern extensions.
