Description
A watermill dating back to the 16th century, altered in the 19th century, and partly converted into a house. The building is constructed of timber framing and weatherboarding, along with red brick in both English and Flemish bonds, and has a slate roof. It has an L-shaped layout, consisting of a timber-framed range running north-south, and a 19th-century brick range extending westward from the north end, with a 20th-century conservatory beyond. The building is three stories high. The east elevation features a base wall of red brick in English bond, approximately one metre high, with weatherboarding above. The ground floor has one halved door, two 19th-century casement windows, and two hinged hatches. The first floor is fitted with three 12-light horizontal sash windows. The second floor has three 19th-century casement windows. The north elevation is weatherboarded on the left side and red brick in Flemish bond on the right. The ground floor has one 20th-century casement window. The first floor features two 20th century fixed lights with loading doors outside, and a lucam (dormer window) with serpentine braces, containing a 20th-century casement window. There are three flush skylights. The top storey of the north-south range was added around 1890. An overshot water wheel remains, along with some surviving machinery, including a friction drive sack hoist.
