Description
1 and 2 Cherry Gardens is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building has four bays facing southeast and features an axial stack to the left of the middle. There is a stair tower at the rear near the left end, along with a 20th-century single-storey extension beyond it. A two-storey extension from the 19th or 20th century is located at the rear of the right end, with another single-storey extension beyond that. A 20th-century tiled porch is present on the left end. The house is two storeys tall and has a three-window range of 20th-century casements. The entrance features a four-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, set in a moulded surround. Inside, there are chamfered transverse beams with lamb's tongue stops above the ground and first floors. The walls have been raised approximately 1.30 metres, and some of the original tiebeams have been reused at this higher level. The roof has clasped purlins.
