Description

This is an 18th-century cottage, altered in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with plaster infill and a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The cottage has three bays facing southeast with a central chimney stack. There is a 20th-century single-storey extension to the rear with a catslide roof, and further 20th-century single-storey extensions including a lean-to and conservatory at the left end. The cottage has one storey with attics. Windows are 20th-century casements, with two more set in swept dormers. A plain boarded door provides access. The roof is a gambrel shape, half-hipped at both ends. In the left bay, a chamfered axial beam with lamb’s tongue stops is present, although this feature may have been introduced later. The roof structure is supported by a hardwood frame and clasped purlins.
