Description

Church Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage, altered in the 20th century. It is timber-framed, with plaster rendering and a roof of handmade red plain tiles. The cottage has three bays facing southeast, with external stacks at each end. There are lean-to extensions to both the left and right ends, one with a slate roof and the other with a felt roof. The building is one storey high, with attics. It has two 20th-century metal casement windows, and three more set within lean-to dormers. The central door is a 20th-century design with plain side-lights. The roof is gambrel-shaped. The ground floor contains a central entrance hall with an original rear winder staircase, and one room to each side. These rooms feature chamfered axial beams of large section. A rear wallplate is made of re-used medieval timber. Much of the timber frame is hidden by interior finishes.
