No. 18 (Gravel House)

GV II

House, now flats. Mainly C18, possibly of earlier origin, altered in mid-C19. Plastered, roofed with slate. Approximately rectangular plan facing S, the front forming a slight obtuse angle, with one stack in left return, and one stack to rear right enclosed by full-width catslide extension to rear. C19 2-storey wing to rear right with end stack. Small single-storey lean-to extension in rear left angle. 3 storeys. Two 2-storey splayed bays of mid-C19 sashes with marginal lights. One mid-C19 sash with marginal lights over central door, and 3 similar sashes on second floor. 6-panel door, the bottom panels fielded, the other panels moulded, and plain sidelights, in doorcase with 4 pilasters with cable carving, scrolled brackets with foliate carving, and extended segmental head, all mid-C19. Large stone step. Symmetrical front elevation, apart from angle noted above, implying some earlier structure. The left return has one similar sash on each floor.
