Description

Hare Bridge House is an 18th-century house, extended in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a facade of painted brick in both English and Flemish bond, and a roof of handmade red plain tiles. The house has a double-range plan facing south, with a central stack. A 20th-century extension comprises a garage and a room above, to the right, and a flat-roofed 2-story extension is at the rear. The main elevation has three 12-light sash windows on the ground floor, with straight heads. The first floor has four similar sashes, and an additional sash in the right wing. A 6-panel door is located at the right end of the main elevation, set within a porch with an arched front, open spandrels, a panelled frieze, two scrolled brackets to the front and sides, and a moulded flat roof. The roof is fully hipped, and a cast iron roundel is located in the middle of the upper storey. The name “Hare Bridge House” derives from Walter Hare, to whom land was granted in 1399.
