Description
Macklands is a house that has been converted into flats, originally built in the early 18th century and extended in the early 19th century. The building features painted brick and render, with ridge and lateral stacks and a slate hipped roof. It has a double-depth plan consisting of two parallel ranges, with the right-hand range dating from the 18th century and the left-hand range from the 19th century.
The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The right-hand 18th-century block has a shallow roof and a ridge stack, while the left-hand block has a steep roof and a lateral stack. There is a narrow flat-roofed entrance section set back in the middle, which features a round-arched doorway with a radial fanlight and a six-panel door. On either side of the entrance are early 19th-century canted bays, each with three-over-six and two-over-four pane sash windows and reeded fascias. The first-floor windows include outer four-over-four pane sashes and a central three-over-three pane sash, all fitted with early 19th-century blinds. A cast-iron balcony from the early 19th century is also present. The sides of the building have restored fenestration with early six-over-six pane sashes.
Inside, there is a long central hall that features an early 19th-century left-hand dogleg stair with stick balusters, column newels, and a curtail. The hall also includes shutters and a six-panel door. It has been reported that the interior contains reused timbers.
