Description

Dower House is a house that dates back to the 15th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions, as well as 19th and 20th century facing. It is timber framed, with the ground floor panel plastered. The first floors of the crosswings feature patterned hanging tiles, and the roofs are covered with red plain tiles and have pierced ridge tiles on the crosswings. The building has central, rear, and left red brick chimney stacks and is designed in an H-plan.

The house has two-storey gabled crosswings that are jettied, along with a two-storey lean-to extension on the right. The central hall is one storey high with attics that include two gabled dormers. All gables are adorned with 19th century brackets and moulded bargeboards. The window arrangement consists of a 1:2:1:1 pattern of 20th century casements, with one ground floor window being a small red tiled oriel supported by moulded brackets. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with plain pilasters and a flat moulded canopy on moulded brackets.

The hall house is reputed to contain remains of the original roof and two original doorways, and it is said to have a crown post roof construction in the southwest wing.
