Description
TL 78 35 CASTLE HEDINGHAM BAYLEY STREET 8/6 No. 23 (Dower House) 21 6 62 GV II
House. C15 or earlier with later alterations and additions and C19/C20 facing. Timber framed, the ground floor panel plastered. The crosswing first floors with patterned hanging tiles. Red plain tiled roofs with pierced ridge tiles to crosswings. Central, rear and left red brick chimney stacks. H-plan. The 2 storey gabled crosswings jettied, with a 2 storey lean-to extension to right. Central hall one storey and attics with 2 gabled dormers. All gables with C19 brackets and moulded bargeboards. 1:2:1:1 window range of C20 casements, one to ground floor being a small red tiled oriel on moulded brackets. Central 6 panelled door, plain pilasters, flat moulded canopy on moulded brackets. The hall house reputed to have remains of original roof and two original doorways. Reputed to have crown post roof construction to southwest wing. RCHM 27.
