Description
This is a barn located 30 metres north of Cresley's Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed, covered with weatherboarding and plaster, and has a thatched roof. The barn consists of seven bays arranged in a northwest-southeast direction, featuring one hipped roof midstrey to the northeast and two gabled midstreys to the southwest. There is a gabled extension between the southwest midstreys and a lean-to extension with a red clay pantiled roof in the southern angle. The structure includes jowled posts, primary straight bracing with heavy studding, and arched braces to the tiebeams, although some of these have been replaced by bolted knees. The wallplates exhibit face-halved and bladed scarfs, and the roof is supported by clasped purlins. The northeast midstrey is a later addition to the main structure and contains a wooden threshing floor, which is a rare survival.
