Description

Meekings Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame, plastered walls, and a roof covered in handmade red clay tiles. The original layout comprised four bays aligned north-east to south-west, featuring an axial chimney stack in the second bay from the north-east and a 20th-century external chimney stack at the south-west end. A single-storey extension with a catslide roof was added in the 18th or 19th century to the north-east bay. Further 20th-century flat-roofed extensions are located to the north-west and south-west of the main range.

The farmhouse is a single storey with attics. The front of the building has a tiled gabled porch (20th century) with a half-glazed door, alongside three 20th-century casement windows and three more windows set within gabled dormers. The main chimney stack features grouped diagonal shafts.

Inside, the building has jowled posts. The floors were inserted in the early 17th century, and feature chamfered axial beams with run-out stops, and plain vertical section joists supported on pegged clamps. In the front of the north-east ground-floor room, there are two blocked windows, each with an ovolo mullion, dating to the early 17th century. An inscription 'EB 1769' is visible in the plaster within the middle dormer. The south-west end of the roof was damaged by fire.
